The family of the late Norwegian shipowner Kristian Gerhard Jebsen established a foundation in 2009 to provide substantial financial support for worthy causes.

The Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation has a wide-ranging object clause. During its first years the board focused primarily on supporting projects within the fields of medical and maritime research.  In 2011, for the first time, it has also reached out to the arts.

The foundation has been established to honour the memory of Kristian Gerhard Jebsen and his contribution to Norwegian and international shipping and business.

At the turn of 2010/2011, the foundation's capital was an estimated NOK 900 million, with an eight per cent shareholding in Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi AS being the largest asset.
